As we dig into the sports world, we're also not ignoring the serious side of life. Just last week, Los Angeles was facing devastating fires. I had to evacuate due to the air quality, which seemed to deteriorate considerably after the winds reached 100 miles per hour—like a hurricane sweeping through. It's surreal watching your hometown go through such chaos. Personally, it was a tough week, losing my beloved dog James after 15 years together.
But let’s shift gears, as much as we need that cathartic release from time to time. With the NFL playoffs heating up, let’s dive into what happened on the field this past weekend.
Playoff Games Recap
The NFL playoff picture is always a wild ride, but this year seems particularly chaotic. My biggest takeaway? The unpredictability of Same Game Parlays—I've been missing way too many lately. But betting on Washington, as I did, paid off. I mean, who would have thought I’d miss out on a big payday just because Daimie Brown didn’t score?
Rams lose again
The Rams, in particular, struggled, which is disappointing, to say the least. Much to my regret, I didn’t ride the Washington wave high enough. As for the Eagles—oh boy. Jalen Hurts didn’t seem quite right on the field, and their win against the Ravens makes me question how prepared they really are for the following rounds.
The Allen vs. Mahomes Showdown
This week, we saw the resurgence of the Bills and Chiefs—a matchup football fans dream about. I have to admit, it’s hard for me to bet against Mahomes, especially at home, but I think the Bills have a fighting chance. If Taylor Swift is in attendance… well, good luck betting against Kansas City!
Busting Myths about Quarterbacks
Moving onto quarterbacks, I find myself frustrated about Lamar Jackson—not for a lack of talent, but because he’s continually let down by teammates. The Ravens could have capitalized on any number of opportunities, but the slips—especially that two-point conversion with Mark Andrews—really hurt their chances.
And then there’s a possible coaching shake-up with teams like the Cowboys and Lions—seriously, do Dan Campbell and Mike McCarthy really inspire confidence moving forward? They’ve both got to step it up if they want to silence the skeptics.
Coaching Carousel and Future Predictions
Speaking of coaching, the chatter about Ben Johnson potentially being courted by the Raiders, Bears, or Jags raises questions. Do any of these franchises give him the resources to succeed? A new coach could completely change the ecosystem.
What do we need moving forward? Well, Pittsburgh might want a fresh start as well—my heart aches for that franchise, which has become notoriously mediocre under Tomlin. They could benefit from a trade to revitalize their culture. Tomlin has the respect but hasn’t pulled through in pivotal moments like he used to.
